Deming, NM – The Deming Headlight reports that Robert Colburn has a 6 kW solar system on his property in New Mexico. The system powers his Geolapidary Museum with extra power going to the grid in the form of energy credits.

“We’ve got to get a Manhattan-sized project’ going to get solar energy really booming,” Colburn said. “The fossil fuels are running short and this is a good way to get off of our dependence on foreign oil.”

Colburn hopes to increase the popularity of alternative energy and wishes to see a nation-wide movement to build up more solar panel factories, which would make installing arrays much cheaper and more simple.

This sort of thing is news today, but will be commonplace tomorrow. I predict we’ll see a lot more solar panels in the near future as green initiatives and pollution laws get tougher, making energy more expensive for the average consumer.

The rates in Hawaii are already 25¢ to 32¢ a kilowatt-hour. (see SolarSavingsCalculator.com click on the US Map to see your average rates).
